Puppies In Need YAHOO GROUP

We are seeing many puppies these days in need of rescue help. This group is for puppies ONLY, and please read the description, because if a mother is also involved, we really like Mom to be rescued, and not left behind. So many puppies are being dumped without moms, and shelters are not the safest or best place for them. Hoping you will join to help in any way you can.

Angel Baby

Angel needs a home! 22 lbs of fun loving dog!! Never meets a stranger, loves all other pets, children and adults! She is in temporary foster care here on the farm for a rescue. She is spayed and utd on all vetting.

Yeh, they did....

Yep, one evening this week we had to go away for a few hours and one baby let 4 other babies loose in the house! The party was still going strong when we arrived home and they were so excited we finally came to join them!!

Bermuda, Bahama come on pretty mama

OH WEEZER, getting him in a sun bath on the dog balcony one day last week!!

YODA YES YODA HAS A NEW DADDY!!!

Dear wonderful senior Boston YODA has been adopted into the family and home of a super great guy!! We are so excited. Yoda has been in foster care for about 5 months and at age 9 not many people looked his way! But, it took a special guy to see the special side of Yoda!! Congratulations to both of you!!!!!

HUGE TRANSPORT

WOW!!! What a wonderful experience to be a part of ! Last week we were able to help FIVE babies travel to New York to meet MANY potential applicants to be their forever families! You have to do alot to get them ready to travel , vet certified health certificates, complete health checks, up to date on everything, etc. It is so exciting. Where there is over population problems in the south , there are needs for certain types of dogs in the NORTH!
We were so excited to see Peanut, Dumpling, Ella, Rappy and Macy travel to safety and to a new beginning. Thank you NANCY, CASEY, AMY and AMY!!!

TITO WENT HOME!!!

Another MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN!! Tito has found a forever home with an amazing sweetheart of a mommy and a big sister Trudy, an 11 year old whippet. he nestled in moms arms quickly, LOOK at that contented face!! Not scared at all, checking out the great big fenced in back yard and prancing about!
Dear Tito, almost 8 weeks we have cared for you, restored your health and loved you. Oh , we won't stop loving you but we are so excited for all the new love you are receiving now! You deserve it, sweet boy!!

Transport Day!!

The rescue rush occurred Friday evening. The Hunk and I grabbed a couple hours to have a date and it was fun but it was spent on the blackberry making some very frantic last minute arrangements to get a van full of babies to safety! At 10 pm we were picking up an aussie mix pup who has been on our waiting list for 4 weeks. We assisted in placing his three sisters and he was the last baby in need.

So, early Saturday morning myself , the Hunk and Prince II all took off to South Carolina. We met on of our rescue associates and picked up a baby she was fostering for us, Mischia. So, then we headed off. In the van was Beethoven the aussie baby, Mischia a hound mix 12 week old girl, Tiffany rose 8 week old lab, Tito , our dapple dandy chihuahua and Miss DZ a dear older girl whose 87 year old owner went into a nursing home and DZ had no where to go.

We met Miss Ella and amazing Sam along with another great rescuer from A Better Life Safe Haven.. Josh.

After much visiting, dog hugs, picture taking and sharing the excitement of saving lives we continued to our next stop. In the midst of the rescue rush Friday evening a great application came in on Tito. I began at 8 am calling references and arranged the home visit on the road.....next post.

Tiffany Rose all in one hour!

Our quickest rescue work to date! We received an email from our wonderful director of our counties Art Council, she is a great supporter and encourager of all we do out here on the farm . So, I receive the email and I immediately send it to my network. OK, within 10 minutes we have two placements lined up for this beautiful baby. She was found on a private citizens back porch one morning.
Within one hour we have transport arranged and Tiffany Rose has placement with 5 other babies at a superb rescue in South Carolina.

POST OP GUIDELINES

** WARNING: This post is flammable, I am angry at heartless people.
People need to take this serious. We are talking MAJOR surgery, especially for the girls. This is a complete hysterectomy, now listen...how would you like to have a hysterectomy one day and have to be somewhere the next, be moved around, be expected to be up and about. THATS FLIPPIN INSANE! Anyone who does NOT respect a dogs recovery time, their FRAGILE physical needs at this time , needs to be _________________________________. Use your own imagination to fill in the blank!
Post-Operative Guidelines for Dogs

All postoperative patients must be kept indoors for 7 days. Discourage any running or jumping; limit stair climbing as much as possible. Outdoor dogs may stay in a clean, warm garage if you are able to watch him/her closely there. Keep your postoperative dog quiet and give him/her comfort.

Please leash-walk your dog for 7 days; do not allow any free roaming.

Male dogs, especially medium to large male dogs, should wear the Elizabethan Collar for at least 7 days. You may take the E Collar off when you are able to watch your dog and prevent him from licking/chewing the incision. However, he must wear the E Collar when you are away or are sleeping. Male dogs can do great damage to their incision in a short amount of time.

Check your dog’s mucous membrane (gum) color when you arrive home. The mucous membrane color should be a pale pink to red; more importantly, the color must quickly return after applied pressure to the gums (above the canine tooth). Check your dog’s color throughout the evening to verify mucous membrane color return.

Offer water immediately after returning home. Provide the water in small amounts throughout the evening, watching for vomiting. If your dog takes a large amount of water, he/she will likely vomit. If after 2-3 hours of offering ice chips or small bowls of water there is no vomiting, you may move to free-choice water. Small dogs and puppies 6 months and younger may eat dry food after 10pm, if they are not vomiting water. Resume normal feeding the day after surgery. Generally, a lack of appetite is normal for the first 24 hours post-op. However, your dog must be drinking water. If he/she shows no interest in food or water after 24 hours, contact the clinic. Contact the clinic if your dog continues to vomit water after 12 hours.

Check your dog’s incision daily for Redness, Swelling, Discharge or Wound Gaping. Some redness and swelling is normal, contact the clinic if it looks excessive to you. Contact FACE about any discharge or opening of the incision.

Do not clean the incision – you may introduce infection. The incision needs to remain dry. If it becomes dirty, flush the incision with Saline Solution (contact lens saline solution). Do not bathe your dog for at least 7 days.

Some discomfort 24-36 hours post-op is normal. Your dog should continually improve; he/she should feel better every day.

Your dog has buried sutures; there is no need for suture removal.

Male dogs remain virile for 3-4 weeks after surgery. Keep them confined.

If you feel your dog is in need of pain-relieving medication, please contact the clinic or our on-call staff before administering any medicines. Some over-the-counter medications can be very dangerous to your dog.

SPAY AND NEUTER INFO

Spay / Neuter
Millions of dogs and cats are euthanized each year because of uncontrolled reproduction. Many
Animal Control Facilities are sterilizing pets as early as 8 weeks to guarantee that adopted
animals will not add to the burden of overpopulation. We prefer to perform surgery between 4 and
6 months of age. Pets adopted from Animal Control Facilities should have surgery delayed for 10
to 14 days to assure that they are not incubating any illnesses that may complicate recovery from
surgery.
Spay
Spay is the common term for surgical sterilization of female animals. The medical term for this
procedure is a complete ovariohysterectomy. The entire female reproductive system (the ovaries,
fallopian tubes, and uterus) is removed through an incision in the abdomen.

 Benefits of Spaying
Spayed female dogs will not come in heat and will not have bloody vaginal discharge
associated with the heat cycle.
Spayed female cats will not come into heat and you will not have the annoying monthly
cycle of howling and tail flashing.
Spayed animals are less likely to develop breast cancer and cannot develop ovarian
cancer.
Spayed animals can not develop uterine infections (pyometra)
No unwanted litters: 61% of dogs and 75% of cats entering animal shelters are killed.
Neuter

Neuter is the common term for the surgical sterilization of male animals. Castration is the medical
term for this procedure. In dogs, both testicles are removed through an incision near the scrotum.
In cats, both testicles are removed through two small incisions in the scrotum

Benefits of Neutering Dogs:
Neutered dogs are less aggressive towards people and other dogs.
Neutered dogs are less likely to roam in search of a mate.
Neutering almost always eliminates annoying leg mounting behavior.
Neutering usually stops sexual marking in the house.
Neutering at a young age will prevent testicular cancer, prostate cancer, prostate
infections, and perianal adenomas (anal tumors). Neutering at any age will help reduce
the risk of these diseases.
Benefits of Neutering Cats:
Neutering greatly reduces sexual and territorial urine marking (spraying) in the house.
Neutered male cats do not have strong "tom cat" urine odor.
Neutered male cats are less likely to fight and develop infections from fighting other cats
Neutered male cats are less likely to get FIV and Leukemia
Neutering prevents unwanted pregnancy. Male cats can impregnate many female cats
per month.

Just a slingïn

'
This is Rocky Weezer enjoying his new sling. I throw it on and wrap him up in blankets and he is cuddled down in it loving it! We go on walks and he hangs out with me while I do chores, etc.
His wheelchair is here and its awesome I cant post pics until something is cleared up with another site but will asap!

Just a movin"and a groovín!

Shyla , the blue Kitten, was adopted on Sunday. BB Baby went to a rescue on Wednesday. Taylor, Snuggles and Katy left today. We have one adopted leaving on the 21st! YAY CHASE!! And another SEVEN placements pending.

A new request came in this week, could we rescue an African grey parrot? MMMMM. We have discussed it as a family and decided we sure could try. So, we will see how this transpires.

Alot of meetings , computer work, endless email networks and phone calls but babies are being saved and moved. You have to WORK TOGETHER, my dear tag team partners are in NC, SC, TN, NY , PA, MD and more! And it just keeps growing, because we are open, honest and care about saving the animal first.

I've been told its easy to get sidetracked when on a larger scale you face death more often than I do now, and I also hear how money really derails alot of rescuers and they get that dollar sign in between them and the dogs welfare, true welfare. That's just old fashioned been around since Adam and Eve greed there. BUT IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE LIKE THAT...and thank GOD the more people I reach out and meet the less derailed rescuers I run into. They are not the majority and that is a huge relief.

So, I applaud the REAL people I have met in the past few months who have stood with integrity in the face of death, loss, lies, abuse, cruelty and more. and never let it sway them from the real reason we do what we do......save lives.
A SHOUT OUT TO!!!!!

AMY, AMY, VICKI, MICHELLE, CRYSTAL,CATHERINE,JESSICA, CASEY,TAMMARA,SARAH,PEG, MARSHA, KAY, CLIFF, RICHARD, DONNA, ALEX,CLAUDIA, MARILYN,PATTI,PENNIE, GWEN,DIANE, DIANE,JEN,JERRY,SANDRA,SONJA,LISA!!
In the past FOUR weeks each of the above people have assisted me in some way to save an animals life!!! I THANK YOU, I cannot do it without you!

Just missing wings

This is ANGEL and this sweetie needs a home ASAP!!!

Here is what her temporary caregiver wrote:

This is Angel, she is a playful little dog, has been both in the house and outside in her doghouse. She is good with children, we have a 2 yr, old at our house. Angel was brought to us for a short stay, and it has turned into a month, the owners live in an apartment, management has said no dogs. We have an older dog that is blind and .deaf as well as a cat, we have our hands full and just can't keep Angel. She loves to run outside, and then she also likes to cuddle on the sofa. On first meeting, she will be excited, and will settle down, once she is familiar with you. She is a lovable dog, but needs attention, and a place to play, like a fenced in back yard. I hope that someone will want to adopt her, she needs a home.

If you know of anyone or a rescue who would like to help a beagle baby please contact us at whisperwaysfarm@bellsouth.net

Peanut and Dumplin

Their momma passed away a few weeks ago and daddy is sick too, so Peanut and Dumplin needed a safe place to stay. They are awaiting transport to NY unless a home closer would open up. Two chihuahuas, Peanut is neutered and a bit smaller than Dumplin, but both are calm, affectionate and kissers! We are enjoying them so much. They love the play yard and waddle around enjoying recess, great cuddlers and under the cover snugglers!

Cats, everywhere, cats

Oh How we need help with cats. have had two calls in two days and the amount of cats in need is over 20. So, waiting on some word back from the network on what to do!! We need connections with feline rescues, contacts, transports, fosters, etc!!!

Transport Day HI FIVE

Taylor wants you to give him a high five!!! He is on the road to his new digs in New York!! He, Snuggles and Katy all hit the road about 6 am today and will get to NY about 9 pm with only a two leg transport! Way to go!! Great thanks to Pennie and Casey !

Riley Sunday Morning Miracle

Last Monday, we woke up, after Riley's big weekend and to our dismay found Riley in terrible shape. HE could not stand, had projectile diarrhea and trembling. Would not eat, alot of bad signs! we rushed him to the vet where he was immediately placed on iv's and diagnosed with a touch of pancreatitis. We would know in 24 -48 hours what we were really up against.
Wednesday we faced the decision. Our dear wonderful vet spent alot of time with us as we discussed Riley's prognosis. He could not stand. I was determined that this dear dog would never be allowed to suffer with immobility. SO, we tearfully and hesitantly made a choice, our first time to make the choice of assisting a dog to leave earth. I do not feel right.
It is not my place to play God and make this life/death choice, decision. It is not up to us to choose an animals death date. For reasons of extreme health challenges, suffering and pain it is even almost unjustifiable. So, tell me how do people choose to euthanize the healthy, adoptable ones? AND NO, I am not addressing the people who work in animal control shelters and face these horrific decisions daily. NO, I would never break bad on you for yoiur job and for the consequences of an irresponsible public choosing not to spay and neuter pets , that , you the AC officer have to deal with.
But, BACK TO MY STORY ON RILEY.......we made the decision and struggled every second of it....

A few minutes later our vet called, excited, Riley had been carried out to lie in the sun and when they went back to get him , he had stood up. With much difficult, weakness and wobbly but he stood. So, lets give him another 24 hours! YAY, the improvement was great. And Riley returned to the farm Thursday afternoon. This morning we went on our walkabout. HE sniffed, rolled, jogged and enjoyed it all. I look at him and am amazed and am also, thankful for the fact that many people were involved in the decision of Riley's life. Whenever faced with this choice I hoe you have a great support system and sounding board surrounding you AND A VET WHO FIGHTS til the end for your animals quality of life and would make sure all possibilities are covered to save the life before a final decision has to be made. I will never take this experience lightly and have learned much from it.

RILEY UPDATE

OK , Let's talk about RILEY! If you are a new reader go back a few posts and read about this boy. Half dead, hit by car, 13 years old, cancer and the list goes on......

OH , yeh fast forward three weeks. It began on Thursday I believe it was , Riley wanted out. OUT of the senior sanctuary pen area. So , we went into the big yard, HE RAN across the yard with his lumbering , slow motioned gait. THEN he went around and gathered up every toy and brought them to the to of the hill and made a pile. Then he proceeded to slide down the hill , wriggling the whole way on his back.

FRIDAY....thump, thump, heavy breathing, what is that????

RILEY breaking out of the senior section and climbing the stairs . NOOOOO. We would have to carry him back down as he is still unsteady and cannot be climbing stairs! So, he broke the gate. We decided ok, RILEY you can visit the upper level. He charged through the living room, grabbed the toy basket, emptied it and took off with a teddy bear, then he peed.

We move him to the front porch then for a change of scenery, he gets out of that gate. He wants to go for a RUN. The Hunk takes RILEY for a HUGE trot around the farm and they come back, does RILEY want to rest? NOOOOO, he found a tennis ball. RILEY plays fetch and loves it.

SATURDAY 1 AM....did you read that 1 AM?? THUMP THUMP, heavy breathing..NOOOO RILEY!
I had to go down to the senior section, RILEY wanted to play fetch ? NO, he wanted to play TUG OF WAR with his blanket. If you try to make his bed he gets under the blanket and grabs it, taking off. yes, I do love you Riley. CAn I go back to bed?

SIGH! Riley says LIFE IS GOOD, real darn good now and it feels great!!

Alot of movement

It has been insanely busy here this past week . Alot of movement and alot of babies finding safe places!
On Saturday we assisted a transport of two babes who were going to be put to sleep THAT MORNING, that very morning. But, a last ditch effort found them on their way to safety and we got to help! Cloney and Gabbo filled our minivan as they stretched out enjoying bones !

We received two phone calls this past week from NORTHERN rescues, really wonderful , nice NORTHERN rescues wanting to work with us! WOW! In the next 3 weeks we have at least 8 dogs transporting. We have placed five babies off the waiting list and one more is pending. We have also placed a baby that has been in foster care for awhile. Here is one of them with her happy new guardian and mommy. Happy 16th Birthday NIKKI!!

We brought in a gorgeous Flat coated retriever whose owners had moved and left her to fend for herself. Thankfully, neighbors fed her but she was on her own other than that. She is 13 months old and the sweetest, gentle soul. Adapting slowly to her new environment. We are seeking rescue placement for her .

Just to let you know...

Friday , OCTOBER 16th we had to bury our dear JOJO. Our adored, senior boston. Cannot post pic yet, maybe sometime in the future.

ANNIES ANNIE-'VERSARY

ANNIE has been with us one year OCTOBER 21. What a year it has been, two months of rehab back to health, spayed and just getting into the swing of a real loving, life filled with great stuff. Stuff like leisurely walkabouts sniffing every blade of grass, sunbaths, oh the couch, the new comfy couch. Being the QUEEN of the farm. Then the attack. But Annie only let it get her down for a bout 4 weeks and she came back better than ever with a new found excitement for life!!
Happy ANNIE VERSARY ANNIE!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROBYN!!

Oh dear Robyn, she turned 31 on October 22nd!!!!!

Macy

Macy has been here on the farm now for about 5-6 days and is a heart stealer. She is quiet, loving and soooo happy. Prince I the other day saw her through the window of quality care and she had not seen him. He reported she was walking back and forth on the couch just wagging her tail!
She has been vetted and is heartworm negative.Macy has a tiny area from a tight collar we are treating but it will be cleared up in no time at all. She will be spayed asap and she is housebroken. She loves belly rubs MORE than ANNIE!!! And that's saying alot!!
A fabulous well rounded, compact family dog. We are excited to see what more Macy has to offer her potential forever family as we see her blossom here on the farm! Macy's baby Mischia is doing well and received a good check up from the vet also.
Mischia is a boxer/beagle/shepherd mix girl, about 11 weeks old. Sweet as pie and the best hugger on the farm right now, hands , well, paws down!

Here's our Link!!!

We are finally on Petfinder.com , a fab portal for helping animals get to their forever home!

Trunk Puppy in Pet show

One of our adored trunk puppies was in a Pet show. Lucy, led her owner around and paraded for all to see her skeleton costume!

TRUNK PUPPY UPDATE!!!!

ALL SEVEN BABIES HAVE BEEN SPAYED OR NEUTERED! Lex Dominic weighed in at 66 lbs! He always was the largest one!! They are all in MARVELOUS HOMES and DOING SUPERB!!! YES!!

Celebrate Lives Beginning Again

YES YES YES YES YES....LADY WAS ADOPTED!!!!!!!
Lady, the gorgeous blue dobie on the right was my personal rescue from a gas shelter a couple months ago. I stopped by to meet some staff and went through the shelter. I could not leave her there. I could not. She came home , very, very thin and in poor condition. We helped her gain weight then she was spayed. Oh, the poor baby had a horrible time getting over that. Then we nursed her back again. Lady was our first baby to fly with Pilots n Paws program and arrived in NEW HAMPSHIRE a few weeks ago.
Now, she has a home to call ALL hers, a mommy and lab brother and a HUGE fenced in YARD!!

Annie.s Beautiful Belly

SIGH...a beautiful sight. Six weeks after her attack, Annie is safe, recovered and doing wonderfully!

Riley and Rocky Weezer update

Both ol'boys are doing well. Surgery recovery is all but done except Riley has a few more stitches to have removed this coming week. He is not gaining weight very fast but eats well daily and takes all his meds and supplements.

I will get some new pics for you this week and you can tell me if you think he is looking better!

Bella Tinkerbell

She arrived in midst of cold, and pending stormy night. Fearless and ready to play. This baby girl is a bundle of dynamo and so funny. She sings/barks, plays, jumps, hops, cuddles and kisses all at the same time!

Two more on Friday

This past Friday we transported TWO more babies to a rescue associate, Patti from NC. Jazzy, a doxie mix and Lucas, a black and tan doxie. They are deeply loved and missed by their former family who just had some big changes in life and could not quite handle it all at this moment in time.

Life hits hard sometimes. Knowing we can help people, help animals is the big picture for us. Hearts are breaking and the one and only comfort we may be able to offer someone is the fact, we will take care of their furbaby. We will find a special place for it and treat it as one of our own. We will pray for you. We will encourage you and hope this season passes for you soon!

Two more placed, two transported

It has been a hopping week! I am excited to share that through the wonder of email forwarding we have placed two more babies off of our waiting list. A purebred miniature doxie and his best buddy, a little mini looking golden retriever girl needed a placement, their owner has experienced some major changes and could not cope with their care anymore.

So, we put their pics out there and contacted our network and the miracles began! They will be transported TOGETHER to their placement on Saturday.

A rainy, soppy, muddy, sloppy day here. We transported Zander and Cisco today to a fantastic min pin rescue and a wonderful individual rescuer who already had an application on Cisco for his forever home!

Our two most needy for a home babies right now are the two 5 month old kittens, Shyla and Samson. SO, IF YOU KNOW anyone looking for a kitty contact us. Samson is orange tabby and Shyla , a blue beauty. Email for pics if needed!!!

First time ever

Here we are a a little ol'edge of the county, minding our own business wanting to just make our little corner of the world a compassionate, proactive FAMILY FOSTER FARM. AND guess what,,,,WE HAVE A WAITING LIST of dogs to come in to the farm. Amazing!!

To be on a waiting list , the first criteria is of course the dog is SAFE. These dogs for several reasons cannot be kept by their owners. It is not "emergency"status like this mornings babies, found in the middle of the road with wounds, and emaciated.dehydrated. BUT they , on the waiting list, need rehomed and we above all, wish to help people in tragic situations find safe answers/places for their pets.

Whispering Ways Farm is dedicated to helping others. Dedicated to helping find creative ways for our county to be able to care for its pets! So, keep a watch for some exciting new things coming your way!!

RILEY day 11

Riley came through surgery fine. The two tumors removed. His SNOOZZY ortho air therapeutic bed is here and he loves it. I love it for him! We ordered one for Weezer as well and what a difference. When Riley stands up, HE CAN! No more stumbling and stiffness as bad as it was. His major challenge now is gaining weight and the wound from the car hitting him healing. It is horrific. There are strings of flesh hanging from his chest and well, it is just nasty. In the picture what you are seeing is his right front leg and underside of chest.

He ate today, hooray. Appetite has been off a bit. He is getting Nutripet food from Quixtar/Amway. PLUS Young at heart supplement, milk thistle, arthritis meds, fish oil, vitamins and right now sugar free satin balls. Weird name but GREAT nutritional addition.
He returns to the vet in 10 days to have stitches removed. He cannot wear a harness or collar due to his injuries.
Thank you Shannon F. for purchasing Riley an elevated feeding station, THAT WILL HELP HIM SO MUCH!!

.

Rocky Weezer

Rocky Weezers first day after surgery was very rough, he was so uncomfortable and the eye was very painful. But , by day 2 he had really perked up and day three! LOL , well we have never seen weezer so full of life. It must be such a relief to have the pain and pressure gone from that eye. Except, we are now dealing with Mr. KLINGON, I have had to get a baby sling to carry him around in as he does not want to be left unattended! His wheel chair has not arrived yet, still waiting!

Four more....

These four babies are needing a home, well, TWO NOW! Hooray!! SUGAR MUTTS RESCUE will be taking Taylor and these two baby girls below. But, the other two still need to be adopted. Will post more as I learn more and get them vetted.

****UPDATE: Two of the babies have placement at Sugar Mutts rescue!! So, seeking rescue or forever home for the top two !!

Weezer UPDATE

Weezer did well coming through surgery, he is home and sleeping. His eye is very swollen and will be for a bit. But, he is home! PHEW. I have never ever been nervous , worried anything with any procedure that have left an animal for with our vet. I so trust them and they are amazing. BUT Today I was nervous, I guess mostly due to Weezers age.
But, I will get pics for you.
